The fotoMuses latest Photo Exhibit - Humor! at Schaumburg Prairie Center for the Arts now through Sept 23
Schaumburg, IL - September 6, 2018 The fotoMuses, a group of women photographers, reveal their newest exhibit, "Humor" at the Schaumburg Prairie Center for the Arts, 201 Schaumburg Court, Schaumburg, IL, now through September 23, 2018; Complimentary Reception from 2 p.m. - 4 p.m. on Sunday, September 23, 2018. This exhibit brings a photographic interpretation of humor with unique compositions showcasing the individuality of each artist; through the medium of photography.
Two fotoMuses members, Diane Bruno and Delta Greene of Chicago, are coordinators for this exhibit. The group often chooses themed exhibits to give their exhibits a little more coherence, but also to bring new challenges to its members. "Humor is definitely a challenging photographic subject, but we embraced it," said Bruno. Greene agreed. Capturing humor in a photo requires a quick eye and an even quicker shutter finger. "There is no time to overthink, one must immediately react to one's perception," said Greene. Which brings the point that this was not an easy exhibit to create.
"The problem with humor is the situation can be very short-lived, almost like the decisive moment that the French photographer, Henri Cartier-Bresson spoke about. You catch it, it's fleeting, it's gone," said Greene.
"Humorous photos are rather rewarding to the photographer," explained Bruno. Humor can often be subtle rather than out-loud funny. "We hope that our photos will elicit a smile and make you feel good," she added.
In their 19th year, the fotoMuses is an artful group of women who display their photos in a creative, professional way. The group is currently made up of 14 women mainly from the western suburbs, most of whom met while discovering their creative sides together through the photography program at the College of DuPage in Glen Ellyn, IL.
Additional fotoMuses members include Joanne Barsanti and Judy Kinal of Roselle, Marita Blanken, Noriko Buckles and Linda Markese of Downers Grove, Aline Fetter of Mercer, WI, Anne Frantzen of West Chicago, Janice Henry of Bloomingdale, Joan Kalmanek of Lisle, Marje Reichart of St. Charles, Elizabeth Smartt of Elmhurst, and introducing their newest member, Cheryl Rausch of Lombard.
