McHenry County College's Concert Band and Chorus to perform Nov. 19
As part of the Second Sunday Concert Series, McHenry County College will host the Grace Hajeck Memorial Concert featuring the MCC Concert Band and Chorus at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 19, in the Luecht Conference Center, 8900 Route 14 in Crystal Lake.
The concert is performed in memory of Grace Hajeck, a former long-time adjunct instructor of piano and organ at MCC, who passed away last year.
As a special tribute, the concert band will perform "Mannin Veen" by Haydn Wood accompanied by Rebecca Chu on MCC's pipe organ, which will be live-streamed into the conference center. The band also will perform "Black Watch March" by Claude Smith and Second Suite in F by Gustav Holst.
The MCC Chorus, directed by Steven Szalaj, will perform a variety of music from classical to contemporary, including "Ave Verum Corpus, K. 618," a motet by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, which also will be accompanied by Chu on the pipe organ. This piece is dedicated to the memory of Judy Williamson, former music department chair. Also featured will be "The Lass from the Low Countree" by John Jacob Niles; and "Como Aguas Tibias" by Manny Cepeda.
The concert is free and open to the public. For more information, call Michael Hillstrom at (815) 479-7814.
