Elgin textile artist presents 'Confessions of a Serial Quilter'

Elgin textile artist Laura Wasilowski presents "Where Did I Go Wrong?: Confessions of a Serial Quilter" at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 8, at the McHenry County Historical Society Museum, 6422 Main St.

Wasilowski earned a degree in costuming from the College of St. Benedict in St. Joseph, Minnesota, and later a master's degree in fiber from Northern Illinois University in DeKalb. She has since written three books, taught numerous workshops and opened Artfabrik Inc., where she sells hand-dyed fabrics and threads, patterns and fusing books.

Explore the artist's quirky mind with this lecture about quilt making in a series. Discover what drives a person to create multiple quilts about a blue chair, garden implements, or unsung kitchen appliances.

After the lecture, which includes dramatic renditions from "Songs of the Fuser," Wasilowski will display her small quilts ("miniseries quilts") and offer a trunk show of hand-dyed fabric and threads from the Artfabrik dyers.

The Gazebo Valor Quilters, a group of about 40 women from the Northwest suburbs, will present four quilts after the program. Those receiving quilts are Robert S. Johnson of Woodstock, Jerry Wiecek of Huntley, and Dale "Woody" Woodruff and Nicole Dunovsky, both of Marengo.

A drawing for the Heritage Quilters' raffle quilt, "Threads of Friendship," and a show-and-tell will follow.

Admission is $5 for historical society members, $10 for nonmembers. For details, visit www.gothistory.org.
