McHenry County College history instructor to offer 'Civics 101' workshop

Learn about the structure of the U.S. Constitution and how to make it work for you, explore how powers are separated between the three branches of government, and hear why there is an electoral college during a "Civics 101" workshop.

It will be offered from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 12, in Room B166-167 at McHenry County College, 8900 Route 14 in Crystal Lake.

The workshop is for anyone interested in how government works.

MCC history instructor Sarah Sullivan will present a historical and timely update on how our government functions and what individuals can do to make it work for them.

This discussion will review the framework of the U.S. and Illinois Constitutions, the checks and balances that establish who has which powers, and review nuances like the electoral college.

Plus, the workshop will feature some related historical intrigues like the hotly contested presidential election of 1800.

The workshop is free and open to the public. Bring your lunch and your questions.
