Prince of Peace to celebrate Catholic Schools Week

Prince of Peace Catholic School, a nationally recognized Blue Ribbon school, invites the community to help celebrate Catholic Schools Week, which will take place from Sunday, Jan. 29, through Saturday, Feb. 4.

National Catholic Schools Week is the annual celebration of Catholic education in the United States. The theme for the National Catholic Schools Week 2017 is "Catholic Schools: Communities of Faith, Knowledge and Service."

Prince of Peace observes the annual celebration week with Masses, open houses and other activities for students, families, parishioners and community members. Through these events, Prince of Peace, as well as other Catholic schools across the United States, focus on the value that Catholic education provides to young people and its contributions to the church, communities and the nation.

National Catholic Schools Week is celebrating its 43rd year in 2017.

Prince of Peace invites the community to get to know the school better during Catholic Schools Week. Community members are invited to an Open House from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 29. There will be tours of the school and recently paid-off Parish Life Center. Additionally, attendees can view the school's innovative seventh- and eighth-grade science fair projects and take a step back in time with the fifth grade as they re-enact the Colonial Days.

Other Catholic Schools Week events to which Prince of Peace invites the community include a school Mass at 8 a.m. Monday, Jan. 30; the much-anticipated eighth-grade vs. faculty game at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 1; and the school's Talent Show at 1:15 p.m. Friday, Feb. 3.

Prince of Peace Catholic School is at 135 S. Milwaukee, Lake Villa.

"At Prince of Peace, we value our students as well as our faculty and staff. Catholic Schools Week is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate them, as well as the importance of Catholic education," Prince of Peace Principal Bonnie Brown said.

"We also value community and appreciate all that ours does for us, so we are pleased to open several of our events to local families and friends. We hope to see you and to welcome you to our school."
