Breast cancer survivors connect with 'HOPE'

Centegra Health System is offering a breast cancer survivor support group called "HOPE, High On Positive Energy," where participants can connect with other breast cancer survivors to share, learn and support one another during and after treatment. Peer support is one of the most effective approaches to increasing quality of life for cancer patients.

The next HOPE group session will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 13, at Centegra Gavers Breast Center, 360 N. Terra Cotta Road in Crystal Lake. To register for the HOPE group session, call (815) 344-8000.

Each monthly session features a specific tool designed to help with the physical and emotional changes associated with a breast cancer diagnosis. They meet the first Tuesday of every month and is facilitated by a breast cancer survivor, the breast health navigator and a hospital chaplain, who all bring their experiences to cover pertinent, educational topics. Every meeting ends with a meditation to instill reflection and calm the spirit.
