Environmental Defenders to show documentary
The Environmental Defenders of McHenry County will present Naomi Klein and Avi Lewis' documentary "This Changes Everything" at 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 23, at the Luecht Conference Center at McHenry County College, 8900 Route 14, Crystal Lake. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.
"This Changes Everything" presents seven portraits of communities on the front lines of both fossil fuel extraction and the climate crisis it is driving, from Montana's Powder River Basin to the Alberta Tar Sands, from the coast of South India to Beijing and beyond.
Interwoven with these stories of struggle is Klein's narration, connecting the carbon in the air with the economic system that put it there.
The film builds to its most controversial and exciting idea: that we can seize the existential crisis of climate change to transform our failed economic system into something radically better.
This screening is co-sponsored by the Citizen's Climate Lobby and hosted by MCC's Sustainability Center.
Founded in 1970, the Environmental Defenders of McHenry County is a citizen organization dedicated to the preservation and improvement of the environment.
