Quilter speaks at Heritage Quilters cutting day

Nearly 40 Heritage Quilters attended the Jan. 13 Cutting Day at the McHenry County Historical Society Museum in Union.

Attendees received detailed instructions from Arlen Bird and Sue Stanek on a nine-patch, Friendship Star set in a ribbon variation.

The group's newest raffle quilt, "Pieceful Garden," is reminiscent of the 1930s. The quilt, in cream and Turkey red, features 64 blocks. This year's quilt is dedicated to veteran quilter Holly Scott.

Blocks are due back to the museum the week of Feb. 14. Please make every attempt to meet this deadline, since volunteers have to size and assemble all these blocks by Basting Day on March 16.

At that time everyone meets to tackle the assembled quilt top.

Setup on March 16 begins at 9:30 a.m. and basting will be begin by 10 a.m., followed by a modest brown-bag lunch.

Raffle tickets are available for the 2016 quilt, "Pieceful Garden,"at $1 each or six for $5. Visit the historical society website at www.gothistory.org. All proceeds benefit the historical society.
