Lecture to discuss self-esteem in children

The development of self-esteem is a lifelong process and is crucial for children, because it is a predictor of future behavior.

Join Allison Kranich, MS, LCPC, CAAD, therapist with Centegra Physician Care, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 12, for the free lecture, "Building Healthy Self-Esteem in Children," at Centegra Health Bridge Fitness Center-Huntley, 10450 Algonquin Road. She will help parents understand how self-esteem develops in children and the role adults play in promoting positive growth.

Healthy self-esteem is related to school success, feelings of happiness, healthy life choices, rewarding relationships and use of effective coping skills. It lowers rates of depression, thoughts of suicide and substance abuse.

Class participants will learn strategies for encouraging healthy self-esteem in children, beginning during the preschool years and continuing through young adulthood. Space is limited. Registration is required. To register, call (877) CENTEGRA (236-8347).
