Restaurant Style Turkey Burgers

1 pound ground turkey

1½ teaspoons Italian seasoning

1 clove garlic, minced

1 egg, beaten

¼ cup bread crumbs

½ teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

1 tablespoon finely chopped onion

Salt and pepper to taste

Accompaniments for serving

Whole grain buns

Various cheeses

Jalapeños

Onions

Avocados or guacamole

Spinach, tomato and lettuce

Add the first seven ingredients in a large bowl, and mix using hands. Hands are best because you are less likely to over mix and therefore will have much more tender and juicy burgers. Shape into patties, and then cover and refrigerate to let the spices flavor the sometimes bland turkey meat. These freeze well too, so you can make them in advance.

Brush a grill pan or griddle with olive, canola or grapeola oil. You may need to brush the pan after each batch of burgers. Cook the burgers over medium heat until browned nicely on each side. Right before serving, lower the heat, place slices of preferred cheese on the burgers, and heat until cheese is melted. As the meat cooks, you may also grill the onions or jalapeños, if desired.

Set up an accompaniment bar with cheeses, chopped onions, jalapeños, etc. so people can add their own fixings, just like at a restaurant.
