Glenbard partners with library for Glenbard Parent Series book talks
The Glenbard Parent Series: Navigating Healthy Families is partnering with the Glen Ellyn Public Library for a series of book discussions around GPS author events. First up will be a discussion of this year's summer family book selection, "A Mighty Long Walk; My Journey to Justice at Little Rock Central High School," by Carlotta Walls LaNier.
Join Glenbard District 87 for this book discussion at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 12, at the Glen Ellyn Public Library, 400 Duane St.
This autography tells the story of 14-year-old Carlotta Walls, who in 1957 was the youngest member of the Little Rock Nine to integrate Central High School in Little Rock, Arkansas. She and eight other black students faced angry mobs, racist elected officials and federal intervention by President Dwight D. Eisenhower, who was forced to send in the 101st Airborne to escort the nine safely into the school.
Also, plan to join Glenbard District 87 at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 27, when LaNier will present her dramatic story to students, parents, and staff at Glenbard East High School, 1014 S. Main St. in Lombard.
