DuPage Chapter of Mothers & More Donates Nearly 3,000 Diapers to Low-Income Families
The DuPage Chapter of Mothers & More is pleased to announce it collected more than 2,800 diapers during its diaper drive "Make a Mother's Day" held in April and May. Twenty Mothers & More chapters participated in this nationwide diaper drive, collecting more than 67,000 diapers. These results will allow 288 babies to be diapered for one full month.
All diaper donations in local communities and on the Mothers & More website were distributed to the National Diaper Bank Network, its member diaper banks and to community organizations that directly assist families in need. In DuPage County, diapers were donated to the People's Resource Center, a nonprofit organization in Wheaton that offers food, basic necessities and other services to low-income residents of DuPage County.
"We are thrilled to have surpassed our goal of collecting 60,000 diapers," said Jill Gaikowski, Executive Director of Mothers & More, a national membership organization providing community and programming for moms. "These results could not have been possible without the generous support and donations from residents, community centers and businesses across the country, as well as the time and effort from our members."
Gaikowski added: "Mothers and More is about helping moms through the experiences and challenges of motherhood, through various activities and community involvement. What better way to help moms than to provide one of the most basic necessities for their children? A necessity that 1 in 3 U.S. families struggle to afford and a necessity that lacks government assistance. Something as basic as diapers can have a profound impact on these families."
The DuPage Chapter of Mothers & More collected 2,832 diapers through member events as well as collection boxes at the Wheaton Parks Community Center in Wheaton, Fountaindale Public Library in Bolingbrook, Fox Valley Park District Eola Community Center in Aurora, and Creative World Preschool in Aurora.
"This diaper drive is a testimony to how we can work together as a community to help other moms, while raising awareness to the very real need for diapers in our community," said Rebecca Osterman, DuPage Mothers & More diaper drive organizer.. "Thank you to all those who donated and helped support this worthy cause."
