MCC to host Children's Health and Safety Fair

The 25th annual Children's Health and Safety Fair will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday, July 29, at McHenry County College, 8900 Route 14, in Crystal Lake.

This year's theme is "The Path to Health and Safety." Admission is free.

Children and adults who visited the fair last year were provided not only with fun activities but also important immunizations, physicals and dental screenings before the start of the new school year. Scheduled activities include Crystal Lake Fire Department's Smoke House, Touch a Truck and more than 40 interactive educational exhibits including door prizes. Children are issued a card which will be stamped at each exhibitor's booth. The completed, stamped card can be turned in for a free school supply box and enters children into a raffle for one of two new bikes and helmets.

School physicals for qualifying children will be provided at the fair by Family Health Partnership Clinic and McHenry Community Health Center. Schedule your appointment by calling (779) 220-9300. Reduced-cost immunizations are offered on a first-come, first-served basis. Parents must bring their child's updated shot record. Call McHenry County Department of Health at (815) 334-4500 for immunization information. Dental screenings will be provided by a local dentist. All services have a nominal fee.

The Children's Health and Safety Fair Coalition includes 13 area agencies. The fair also is supported by organizations and volunteers who contribute time, services, and/or financial donations. For more information, call the McHenry County Department of Health at (815) 334-4510.
