Community Advocacy Program Summary

WHO?

People with disabilities who want to become leaders in the disability community and are interested in making a difference in society. If this sounds like you, then call today!

WHAT?

This program is designed to teach people with disabilities about the legislative process and equip participants with the skills needed to be effective leaders in their communities. Each session offers information and activities to enhance the understanding of how government works and presents new ways to learn how to get our voices heard and act on issues important to the disability community. The lessons of the program culminate with a trip to the state capitol to put these newly learned skills to practice. Travel expenses are incurred by LCCIL.

WHEN?

The program will begin on Wednesday, February 4th from 1:00-4:00 and meets every Wednesday, for twelve weeks.

WHERE?

Sessions are held in the LCCIL conference room at 377 N. Seymour Ave, Mundelein, IL 60060.

WHY?

The disability community is the largest minority in this country, yet it is the least heard. We are a fragmented community that must come together with one voice. LCCIL exists to empower people with disabilities to self direct their own lives. This program is designed to equip participants with the skills to do this, which in turn strengthens the community at large. We strive to achieve social justice for people with disabilities and take a grassroots approach to advocacy issues. This program is one of many ways we train and organize potential leaders who can and want to make a difference in the disability community.

HOW?

If you are interested, please call Amanda Swet at (847) 949-4440 and request an application. Completed applications must be turned in by December 24, 2014.
