McHenry County Historical Society seeks driver for mobile museum

In 2002, the McHenry County Historical Society adapted a 1983 Thomas-Built school bus into a mobile local history museum. "The James," named after McHenry business man Jim Tonyan who funded the bus purchase, has been used to bring exhibits of local interest to the public at libraries, community events and schools.

Currently the historical society is seeking an individual with a Class C license interested in driving "the James." Most of the 10 to 15 scheduled events each years are on Saturdays or Sundays during the warmer months. The "James" has a stick shift.

Those interested in volunteering must enjoy talking to visitors who come through the traveling museum and undergo a orientation session to familiarize themselves with the bus. Drivers receive mileage and membership to the McHenry County Historical Society.
