MCCD hosts open house May 18

May is Look at Local History Month. Join McHenry County Conservation District on Sunday, May 18, and discover more about our area's cultural past.

Step back in time to the 1850s at Living History Open House from noon to 4 p.m. at the Historic Powers-Walker House in Glacial Park, Route 31 and Harts Road, Ringwood.

Join costumed re-enactors as they demonstrate seasonal activities and skills that were done in the 1850s. May's open house will feature Samuel Walker, a prominent and influential man who owned the house after the Civil War.

A special presentation of "Just Who is Samuel Walker?" is scheduled for 2 p.m. which will answer the question, "Why is the name Walker part of this farmstead's name?" Hear the story about the Walker connection to this house, to Ringwood and to McHenry County.
