COD Chamber Orchestra Performs May 6 at the MAC
The College of DuPage Chamber Orchestra will perform with Chicago Symphony Orchestra violinist Fox Fehling at a concert at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 6, in the Belushi Performance Hall at the McAninch Arts Center on the Glen Ellyn campus, 425 Fawell Blvd.
Now in its 13th season, the orchestra includes both students and community members and performs under the direction of Conductor Dan D'Andrea. The May 6 program includes Mozart's "Concerto No. 5 for Violin in A Major," Beethoven's "Symphony No. 2 in D Major, Op. 36" and ballet music of Jean-Baptiste Lully, as orchestrated by the late 19th century conductor/composer Felix Mottl.
Fehling began playing violin at age 9, and by age 15 was soloing with the Cedar Rapids Symphony and The University of Iowa Symphony. She attended the Manhattan School of Music on a full scholarship studying under Rafael Bronstein and at Juilliard with Dorothy DeLay. Fehling played in The Orlando Symphony and The Lyric Opera Orchestra before being appointed to The Chicago Symphony in 1979 by Sir George Solti.
D'Andrea is music director of several ensembles, including the Senior Suburban Orchestra, COD's Chamber Orchestra, Combined Church Choir of Itasca and Sinfonietta Bel Canto. He has music degrees from DePaul University, the New England Conservatory and Northern Illinois University and is a skilled harpsichordist and bassoonist. D'Andrea served as director of the Salt Creek Sinfonietta for 14 years and currently is principal bassoon with the Northwest Indiana Symphony Orchestra.
