Learn about sustainable building materials

The public is invited to Green Drinks McHenry County from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 5, at Duke's Alehouse & Kitchen, 110 N Main St. in Crystal Lake.

Head upstairs at Duke's for info and inspiration, business and pleasure. Come talk about "greening" the future with others. Must be 21 to purchase alcohol - nonalcoholic drinks also are available.

Dave Kozlowski is the owner of Little Green Houses, since 2000, a residential remodeling enterprise employing green building materials and methods.

He specializes in sustainable materials selection, home energy analysis and retrofits, passive solar design, and reducing your carbon footprint. He is a volunteer Climate Leader with the Climate Reality Project providing educational programs on the urgency of personal and public action to face the climate crisis.

Kozlowski will offer solutions for the home to reduce energy use, improve comfort, and incorporating natural heating/cooling design and techniques.

ComEd Smart Ideas programs offer savings incentives on energy efficient products and services as well as money-saving energy awareness tips. Michelle Ackmann currently manages several ComEd Smart Ideas residential energy efficiency programs including the Home Energy Savings, Home Energy Jumpstart and Complete System Replacement.

Michelle also managed residential and business programs in Missouri and Wisconsin that were funded by ARRA and Focus on Energy, respectively. Michelle graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign with a degree in Urban and Regional Planning.

There will be an information table set up, and you are welcome to bring information about your green products and services each month to share. Additional parking is available at the train station.
