McHenry County College to offer fun classes for outdoor enthusiasts

For those who love the outdoors, McHenry County College is offering some fun classes to get you going, including golf, kayaking on Nippersink Creek or bicycle maintenance.

Golf lessons:

Learn the basic fundamentals of golf such as grip, posture, ball position and alignment, basic skills of swinging a club, short game, etiquette, and safety. Participants will practice developing a powerful, repeatable swing at the range and will finish with the short game. Price includes practice balls during class and a voucher for one bucket of practice balls at the end of the program. Those who have their own clubs are encouraged to bring them to class - driver, 7 iron, pitching or sand wedge and putter. Call the Golf Academy at Terra Cotta if you need to borrow clubs, (815) 355-4225. Classes will not be canceled due to weather as the Golf Academy has an indoor facility. Class meets from 10:30 to 11:50 a.m. Fridays, Sept. 4 through Oct. 7, at the Golf Academy at Terra Cotta. Cost is $99. Use course code NRE S46 005 when registering.

Glacial Park by Kayak:

Explore the beautifully scenic wetlands of Northern Illinois. Course fee includes kayak rental, shuttle, and guide through the park via the Nippersink Creek. Class takes place from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 1. Please dress appropriately and meet and meet at the Creekside Country Store in Wonder Lake. Cost is $45. Use course code NRE S49 003 when registering.

Bicycle Maintenance I:

Emphasis is on cleaning, simple adjustments, and lubrication points. Class members will use the Park Tools BBB-3 repair manual, which will be available for purchase in class for $25, check or cash. It is strongly recommended to purchase this book. Participants will get information on rider etiquette, tips on commuting by bicycle, accessories and riding gear, plus the latest and greatest bicycle technology. This class is required before taking the Novice Bicycle Maintenance class. Class takes place from 6 to 8:50 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 18, in Room A102. Cost is $39. Use course ID NRE S27 003 when registering.
