MCCD to offer 'Toast to the Summer Solstice' June 21

Enjoy a special celebration from the top of the camelback kames in Glacial Park. Join McHenry County Conservation District for a toast the solstice under the dazzling colors of the sunset at "Toast to the Summer Solstice" from 7 to 9:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 21, at Lost Valley Visitor Center in Glacial Park, Route 31 and Harts Road, Ringwood.

The summer solstice marks the longest period of daylight in the northern hemisphere. Cultures worldwide have held celebrations in honor of this day for centuries. Meet at the Lost Valley Visitor Center for a naturalist led hike through the park, stopping along the way to learn more about the natural history of the site, and about a variety of solstice celebrations held around the globe. Participants will make a special stop at the top of the kames for a sunset toast, and conclude the journey back at the visitor center. Each participant will have a choice of an adult beverage for the toast. Participants who plan to enjoy an adult beverage must bring a valid ID. The Just for Adults event, age 21 and older, is $10 for county residents and $13 for nonresidents. Registration deadline is Saturday, June 17.
