Calling all super heroes! Join Children's Health and Safety Fair July 27

If your child is a super hero, you will want to attend the Children's Health and Safety Fair this summer. This year's theme is "Super Heroes" and kids are encouraged to come as their favorite character. This free event will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday, July 27, at McHenry County College, 8900 Route 14, Crystal Lake.

Expect a lot of fun and educational activities at the fair. It is also a good opportunity to get low cost immunizations, dental exams on a first-come basis needed for the school year and qualifying children can have their school physical done at the fair by calling the Family Health Partnership Clinic at (779) 220-9300. Appointments for physicals are being taken now and fill up fast.

For immunizations, parents must bring their child's updated shot record. Call McHenry County Department of Health at (815) 334-4500 for immunization information. All services have a nominal fee.

Attractions at this year's fair include animal characters, the Lemonade Brigade, a Crystal Lake Fire Department hands-on activity, child ID system, and more than 40 fun, educational and interactive exhibits. Children will be given a participation card. After after filling it with stamps at different booths, they can turn it in for a free school supply box and to enter a raffle for winning a new bike and helmet. Fair participants also will receive free nutritious snacks, which a new addition.

The Children's Fair Coalition partners include Community Action Agency/Head Start, Centegra Health System, Family Health Partnership Clinic, McHenry Community Health Center, League of Women Voters Education Fund, McHenry County College, McHenry County Department of Health, McHenry County Mental Health Board, Mercy Health System, Northwest Herald/Shaw Media, Pioneer Center for Human Services, STAR 105.5 and the Volunteer Center McHenry County. The fair also is supported by organizations and volunteers who contribute time, services, and/or financial donations.
