Lake Zurich bears down against Marmion

Mike Travlos scored 21 points, and Lake Zurich’s boys basketball team improved to 3-1 with a 79-63 win over Marmion Academy at West Chicago on on Saturday.

The Bears led 25-10 after the first quarter, 45-26 at halftime and 63-44 after three quarters.

Travlos, who hit three 3-pointers, scored 13 points in the first quarter. Will McClaughry and Brad Kruse added 14 points apiece. Sophomore Nick Penny gave the Bears a spark off the bench with 6 points and 6 rebounds.

“Marmion was the most physical team we’ve played in a long time so this was a nice, hard-fought win for us,” Lake Zurich coach Billy Pitcher said.

Grant 61, Johnsburg 54: At Johnsburg, Ryan Noda had 20 points, 9 rebounds, 5 steals and 4 assists, as the Bulldogs advanced to the championship game of the tournament.

Grant (3-0) will play Crystal Lake South (3-0) at 7:30 p.m. today at Richmond-Burton.

Mike Burns added 10 points, 7 steals and 5 rebounds for the Bulldogs, while Matt Malmberg chipped in 13 points.

Carmel 72, Crystal Lake Central 54: At Crystal Lake Central, senior center Jack George scored 23 points for the Corsairs.

Carmel also received 13 points from Billy Kirby and 11 from Nickai Poyser.

Libertyville 81, Lincoln Park 71: At Maine West, Joe Borcia dropped in 29 points to lead the Wildcats.

Vernon Hills 53, Northridge Prep 46: At Northridge Prep, Robby Nardini poured in 26 points for the Cougars.
