LAKESIDE LEGACY ARTS PARK AND GIRLS ON THE RUN NORTHWEST ILLINOIS TEAM UP TO HOST FIRST ANNUAL SOLES FOR THE DOLE 5K

The Lakeside Legacy Arts Park and Girls on the Run of Northwest Illinois (GOTRNWIL) are excited to be hosting the first annual Soles for the Dole 5K in conjunction with the Run and Roll for the Dole on October 6, 2013. All proceeds from the Soles for the Dole 5k will go towards supporting both organizations missions and commitment to the community.

“We are excited to be partnering with another great non-profit” said Erin McElroy, Advancement Coordinator at Lakeside Legacy Arts Park. “We support each other as non-profits and this is just one way to show the community that while we address different needs, we are a team in providing exceptional services to our county. “

The race will begin and end at the Dole Mansion in Crystal Lake and starts promptly at 8:00 a.m. In addition to the race, there will be a costume contest. “This year, the GOTR NWIL theme is “experience the pure joy of being your own action hero” said Laurie Dayon, Executive Director of GOTRNWIL. “We want participants to be creative in what their very own super hero would look like. Think beyond our typical super heroes. Love flowers or gardening? Build a costume around that. Enjoy reading? You can create your own superhero costume that reflects your love of reading! The point is to have fun with it.” There will be prizes handed out to the top three most creative costumes. Costumes are encouraged, but not a requirement to participate in the 5k race.

Race registration is now available online at http://www.lakesidelegacy.org/soles-for-the-dole-5k/ and the Run and Roll for the Dole is presented by Sage Products, Inc. The Soles for the Dole 5k takes place on October 6th at 8:15am following the 8am shotgun start of the 5th annual Run and Roll for the Dole Duathlon. Registration is now available for the duathlon. The duathlon course includes a 2 mile run, a 12.4 mile bike course, and concludes with a 2 mile run. For more information regarding the duathlon and 5k race, visit www.LakesideLegacy.org. Race course maps are also available. Lakeside Legacy Foundation is located at 401 Country Club Road, in Crystal Lake, IL. The start and finish line for the race is located on the front driveway of Lakeside, near the doors of the Historic Dole Mansion.

The Lakeside Legacy Arts Park mission is to preserve and protect the Dole Mansion and Arts property for community use in a natural and historic setting for generations to come. Lakeside's vision is to be an innovative community arts center. Lakeside is steeped in art and history, and it is a place for the community to gather and to be inspired.

Girls on the Run of Northwest Illinois inspires girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running. We envision a world where every girl knows and activates her limitless potential and is free to boldly pursue her dreams.
