Miss Lake County visits St. Mary of the Annunciation School

Students at St. Mary of the Annunciation School were excited to have a former St. Mary student, Shannon Baucus, visit them to talk about her experience as Miss Mundelein and Miss Lake County. To many students, it seemed as if there was a real princess in their classroom!

Shannon talked to the students about her experience competing in pageants. Before she ever won a title, Shannon participated in several pageants and loved to get together with the other candidates to practice speeches. Unlike the television show Toddlers & Tiaras, the pageants focused on the importance of being a good person, volunteering your time and effort toward a cause, and making a difference in your community.

One of the questions asked of Shannon at the Lake County competition was “What cause or platform do you support”? Shannon is passionate about inspiring girls to have self-confidence and a positive body image. One of her favorite things to do as Miss Lake County is to visit schools to talk to students about how they can make a difference in their community and in the world. She feels that she can have the most impact in speaking with young children.

Shannon spends her summer working as a lifeguard so she gave the students some tips about summer safety and safety at the pool. She also looks forward to working at the American Cancer Federation Relay for Life this summer.
