Dolan powers Meadows to key victory

Senior catcher Mike Dolan homered, finishing with 3 hits and 5 RBI to help Rolling Meadows top visiting Barrington 10-4 on Thursday in what could be a preview of the Mid-Suburban League championship game.

The victory improved the Mustangs’ record to 12-1 in the MSL East, 2 games ahead of Elk Grove with three league games left for both teams.

Erik Schurtz got the start for Rolling Meadows (15-8-1 overall) and earned the win after pitching 4 innings. Austin Reed pitch 2 scoreless relief innings for coach Jim Lindeman.

Dolan’s homer was a 3-run shot.

“He’s having a really good year offensively,” Lindeman said of Dolan. “He’s a heck of a competitor.”

Other offensive standouts for Rolling Meadows included Dan Hendrickson (3 hits, 3 RBI), Alex Niecikowski (2 hits, 2 walks, 2 runs) and John Burkiewicz (2 walks, 2 runs).

Mitch Pfeiffer and Jake Petersen doubled for Barrington (18-9, 12-2), which clinched the MSL West title Wednesday.

Palatine 5, Schaumburg 2: Starter Nolan Gavin allowed 2 runs over 6 innings and Jarrod Juskiewicz got the final out on a strikeout to earn a save as the host Pirates won in MSL West play.

Palatine (15-13, 9-5) coaxed 6 walks, including 2 by Juskiewicz, as the Pirates made the most of 4 hits. Matt Hogan had 2 of them, and Zach Serna and Neal Ori both scored twice.

Michael Fan, Kyle Reinhart and Joe Franz had 2 hits each to account for all of the 6 hits for Schaumburg (5-11, 2-9).

Elk Grove 9, Fremd 5: Elk Grove did all its scoring over the final 3 innings to pick up a Mid-Suburban League victory in Palatine.

Fremd led 3-0 after the fourth inning, but the Grens (19-7, 10-3) scored 3 in the fifth, 2 in the sixth and 4 in the seventh.

Johnny Assimakopoulos homered as Elk Grove was outhit 10-6 and overcome 4 errors.

Matt Isola doubled for Fremd (15-9, 8-5).

Christian Liberty 14, Kirkland Hiawatha 10: Aaron Cunningham connected for a pair of doubles and the host Chargers rolled up 15 hits in a Northeastern Athletic Conference victory.

JD Dulinsky earned the victory; he and Dan Glad had doubles as Christian Liberty improved to 11-10 overall and 6-2 in the league.

Hoffman Estates 5, Conant 3: The visiting Hawks scored 2 runs on both the fifth and sixth innings to come from behind against the Cougars, who did all their scoring in the third inning.

Jeff Mayes doubled to drive in the go-ahead run in the sixth for Hoffman Estates; Trevor Pye, Justin Frame and Jimmy Ward also had 1 RBI apiece to make a winner of Chris Eisele, who pitched a complete game and allowed 3 hits while striking out five.

Frame helped stop a Conant rally in the seventh by making a diving catch on a line drive in right field.
