Milas, Meadows on the march
Jack Milas made sure the Mid-Suburban East leaders weren’t going to give up ground in Tuesday’s game at Wheeling.
Milas (3-0) tossed a 6-inning no-hitter, striking out five as Rolling Meadows won 10-0.
The only Wheeling runner to reach base against the Mustangs senior did so on an error.
Dan Hendrickson helped power a 6-run second inning with a 3-run homer as the Mustangs (13-8 overall) improved their MSL East-best mark to 10-1.
John Burkiewicz and Dan Hendricks doubled as Meadows took advantage of 6 errors by Wheeling (8-13, 4-9).
Barrington 6, Fremd 5: After topping the host Vikings, the visiting Broncos could clinch an MSL West title with a victory at Palatine on Wednesday.
Barrington (17-8, 11-1) won for the 13th time in the last 14 games by coming from behind.
Fremd (14-8, 7-4) had gone ahead 5-3 after Austin Jetel’s 2-run double keyed a 4-run fifth.
The Broncos answered with a single run in the sixth, and in the seventh, on an 0-2 pitch, Scott Nelson delivered a 2-run double to finish the scoring.
Dylan Balogh started and earned the win for Barrington, and Nelson relieved and earned a save.
Matt Isola doubled twice for the Vikings, and Mitch Pfeiffer had a triple for the Broncos.
Conant 3, Schaumburg 1: Brian Polaski pitched the visiting Cougars to their first MSL West victory. He allowed 8 hits but struck out eight.
Conant produced 3 runs in the sixth as a pair of walks, a sacrifice bunt that went for a hit, a sacrifice fly and an errant pickoff attempt left the Cougars (2-14, 1-9) in charge.
Jack Holden went 3-for-3 with a double for Schaumburg (5-9, 2-7).
Hersey 5, Buffalo Grove 4: The host Huskies went ahead 3-0 in the second inning, then scored twice more in the fifth before a 4-run Bison rally in the sixth fell short.
Dave Milligan doubled and drove in 2 runs for Hersey (9-14, 6-5). Mike Sauer pitched 5 innings and earned the win, as none of the Hersey’s three relievers allowed a run and Eric Labahn earned a save.
Buffalo Grove (7-11, 5-6), which outhit Hersey 8-6, got 2 hits apiece from Mike DiViesti and Ryan Schumi and an RBI triple from Sean Edgar.
