Glenbard S. High principal gets promotion to district post
The principal of Glenbard South High School is being promoted to a position as coordinator of teaching and learning for all four district schools.
Terri Hanrahan has been principal at Glenbard South since 2007, and served as assistant principal for instruction two years earlier at Glenbard East. She will begin her new position July 1 to replace Shelley Taylor, who is taking a new job at the Consortium for Educational Change, a Lombard-based nonprofit organization aimed at improving student learning and achievement.
The school board approved Hanrahan’s appointment Monday.
“For me, it’s a terrific move because ultimately my career goal is to become an assistant superintendent,” Hanrahan said. “It gives me experience in the district office and a chance to work with all four buildings.”
The district will post the open principal position Tuesday, and collect resumes and applications over the course of the next two weeks, said Rod Molek, the district’s assistant superintendent for human resources and student services.
Interviews are expected to take place in April with a selection expected by the end of the month, he said.
The chosen candidate will become the second new principal in the school district this year. Peter Monaghan was selected in January to succeed Glenbard West Principal Jane Thorsen, who is retiring at the end of June. Monaghan has been the assistant principal for student services at Glenbard West since 2004.
Monaghan’s replacement, Christopher Mitchell, was also named Monday. Mitchell is currently a dean at St. Charles North High School.
The school district also will be hiring a new assistant principal for instruction at Glenbard South to replace Loukia Mastrodimos, who is returning to Downers Grove District 99 as an administrator after spending two years at Glenbard.
In Hanrahan’s new position, she will oversee the district’s instructional coach program, professional development programs for teachers, and the district’s Response to Intervention program for students struggling academically.
She also will be the district’s Title I facilitator, handling roughly $1 million in federal educational grants intended for schools with low-income populations. Most of the district’s Title I funds are dedicated to Glenbard East.
“She brings a wealth of experience to the position and knows all the players,” Molek said.
