Naperville Central escapes upset-minded Glenbard East

Cierra Stanciel scored 15 points, including the tying and go-ahead baskets, and No. 6 Naperville Central survived an upset bid from Glenbard East 42-40 on Monday in Naperville.

The Redhawks (20-3, 6-2 DuPage Valley Conference) led 32-22 midway through the third quarter, before Glenbard East (2-16, 0-8) surged ahead with a 13-0 run. The Rams eventually took a 40-35 lead with a little more than three minutes remaining, but Naperville Central scored the game’s last 7 points.

Shannon Ryan scored 9 points and Jamie Cuny 7 for Naperville Central, which went 8 of 18 from the free-throw line with a pair of misses in the final minute. Kelly Eberle scored 13 points and Rachael Leifheit 8 for Glenbard East.

Lisle 41, Plano 38, OT:Top seed Lisle advanced to the championship game of the Interstate Eight Conference Tournament, beating Peotone in overtime.Kristina Fernette scored 15 points for the Lions (19-3) before fouling out in regulation. Sierra Birdsell added 10 and Kelly Urban 7, including a shot with five seconds left in regulation that had put Lisle up 2. Peotone went length of the court for a basket to force overtime, where Lisle prevailed. The Lions advance to Thursday#146;s championship game against Plano, a 45-41 winner over Coal City.St. Francis 54, Marian Central 43:Kate Slattery poured in 25 points for the visiting Spartans (10-9, 6-1 Suburban Christian Gold), who remained atop the Gold despite shooting 15 of 35 from the free-throw line. Aly Germanos and Alexis Long each chipped in 7 points. Shannon Wuensch scored 16 for Marian Central, including her 1,000th varsity point.St. Viator 58, Fenton 53, OT:Erin Fabbri scored 17 points and Jennie Horstmann 12 for St. Viator, including the tying free throws with 15 seconds left in regulation to force overtime at the Fenton Season#146;s End Tournament. Sidney Montano paced Fenton (14-7) with 17 points.
