Boys soccer/Fox Valley roundup

Eduardo Arellano scored a first-half goal and Dundee-Crown’s defense made it stand up for a 1-0 nonconference win over Larkin Thursday night in a nonconference battle of the top two boys soccer teams in the Fox Valley area.

Christian Martinez stopped 3 shots for the Chargers (12-1), who won their 12th straight game. Aldair Dominguez had 5 saves for Larkin (10-3), which played without injured scoring leader Erik Rodriguez.

“Erik couldn’t play so scoring was a little difficult without him,” said Larkin coach Ken Hall. “(The Chargers) have a corner who can put the ball in the goal.”

Huntley 3, CL South 2: Niko Miholopoulos scored twice, including the game-winner in the second overtime, to lead Huntley to a Fox Valley Conference Valley Division win. Christian Ramos had Huntley’s other goal while Matt Tobolt and Troy Bittenbender scored for the Gators. Auston emery had 5 saves in goal for the Red Raiders (10-3, 1-1) and Steven Follmer made 4 stops for Crystal Lake South (9-7, 0-2).

Oswego East 3, South Elgin 1: Phil Saccameno scored South Elgin’s only goal in this nonconference loss. Tyler Shipon made 11 saves and Michael Cortez added 7 for the Storm.

Johnsburg 7, Hampshire 0: Andy Pederson made 21 saves in goal but it wasn’t enough as Hampshire (2-8-1, 0-1) fell in the Fox Valley Fox.

Richmond-Burton 1, Burlington Central 0: Brett Rau made 6 saves and Drew McMahon added 3 but Burlington Central (9-2-2, 6-1-1) couldn’t find the back of the net in this Big Northern East loss.

Elgin Academy 1, Lake Forest Academy 0: Freshman Armando Sanchez scored the only goal of the game as the Hilltoppers won in the Independent School League. Liam Phalen had 2 saves in goal for Elgin Academy (4-3-2).
