Submitted by McHenry County Historical Society

Longtime Northwest Herald reporter, columnist and Business Journal editor Kurt Begalka of Harvard was selected out of a field of 39 applicants to become the new McHenry County Historical Society administrator. Begalka replaces Nancy Fike who retires at the end of August after 31 years in that position.

With a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Illinois, experience with nonprofit organizations and some 25 years of journalism and public relations experience in McHenry County, Begalka provides the communication skills and community, as well as business, contacts that will serve the historical society well. He currently serves on the historical society board of directors and is working to complete a master’s in business administration.

Begalka begins his duties at the society’s headquarters and museum in Union the middle of August. He is already working with a committee to celebrate the McHenry County Historical Society’s 50th anniversary next year.
