Orchestra auditions for talented high school, middle school students

The Metropolitan Youth Symphony Orchestra (MYSO) will hold auditions from 6-8:30 p.m. Wednesday, August 22 and Wednesday, August 29 for the 2012-2013 season. Auditions will be held at the Oremus Fine Arts Center on the Lewis University main campus located on Route 53 in Romeoville, Ill.

MYSO has openings in all sections of the orchestra: violin, viola, cello, bass, flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, horn, trumpet, and tuba. Players seeking to join the orchestra should be prepared to play a solo, scales and to sight-read. The orchestra is open to high school students and advanced middle school instrumentalists who study with a private teacher.

MYSO rehearses every Wednesday evening that school is in session from 6-8:30 p.m. at Lewis University. The orchestra is scheduled to perform six concerts during the 2012-2013 season. Concerts are held at Lewis University, Joliet Junior College, and at the Bicentennial Park in Joliet.

Founded in 1959, MYSO has been under the direction of Dr. Lawrence Sisk, Chair of the Department of Music at Lewis University, since 1991. For more information about MYSO and the auditions, visit the Web site: www.mysomusic.org
