Make Summer II Plans at Lake County Family YMCA

Registration for the wide variety of quality Summer II programs for the whole family offered at Lake County Family YMCA branches in Vernon Hills and Waukegan opens up to the general public on June 25. It's the community's second opportunity to sign up for summertime activities that encourage the four core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility at Central Lake YMCA, 700 Lakeview Parkway, Vernon Hills, and Northern Lake YMCA, 2000 Western Ave., Waukegan.

Summer II programs beginning July 9 include fitness classes for kids and adults, swimming lessons and activities for all ages, martial arts, CPR and first aid instruction.

Be sure to sign up by July 1 to avoid higher late-registration fees for some classes.

Meanwhile, Lake County Family YMCA's summer youth camps are under way.

From swimming to craft projects and outdoor education, ACA-accredited Y Day Camps offer a variety of fun and educational activities under the supervision of counsellors certified in first aid, CPR and AED. Campers will build self-confidence, discover new skills, develop a respect for the outdoors and make new friends. They are divided into two age groups: grades K-4 and grades 5-8.

There's also a preschool summer camp experience available for kids 3 to 5 years old at the Vernon Hills Y only. These young campers will participate in games, songs, crafts, and several field activities in addition to swimming one day each week.

Registration for all age groups can be done on either a weekly or an all-summer basis. Camps dates continue through Aug. 24. Space is limited, so parents should register their children early. Members of the Y receive discounted rates.
