Dundee-Crown 5, Cary-Grove 4: Kyle Bernhard walked and scored the go-ahead run on an error as D-C upset Cary-Grove in the Fox Valley Conference Valley Division. Chris Gorman picked up the win in relief of Garrett Ryan for the Chargers (8-16, 5-12). Jake Romano (2-for-2), Ryan Suwanski (2-for-2, 2B, 3 RBI) and Mike Hazelhurst (2-for-4, RBI) led the D-C offense. Matt Dunlap suffered the loss in relief for the Trojans (20-10, 13-4). Jeremy Vasquez was 2-for-4 with 2 doubles and 2 RBI, starting pitcher Andrew Brierton had an RBI and Brandon McCumber doubled and had an RBI for Cary-Grove.

Elgin splits: Alex Doty fired a 1-hitter with 5 strikeouts and 2 walks to lead Elgin to a 3-1 win over St. Charles North in the opening of an Upstate Eight River doubleheader at Trout Park. Ryan Sitter had the go-ahead RBI for the Maroons and Jake Bartelt also drove in a run. The North Stars won the nightcap 2-1 as Elgin (11-19, 5-16) managed just 4 hits. Ryan Sitter drove in the Maroons’ run and Eric Daly suffered the loss.

Bartlett sweeps: Dan Gallanis had 10 strikeouts and threw a 3-hitter as Bartlett beat East Aurora 7-2 in the Upstate Eight Valley. The Hawks (15-16-1, 10-11-1) completed the sweep with an 18-5 win in Game 2. In the opener, Gallanis and Giacomo Visconti had doubles for Bartlett, Ryan Roszkowski had 3 RBI and Ben Grear drove in 2 runs. In the second game, Grear had 4 RBI and Ryan Karrick drove in 3 runs for the Hawks. Colin Nowak also homered. Tyler Bassley picked up the win on the mound.

Larkin splits: Brayden Royse scattered 5 hits and Nate Young’s squeeze bunt in the sixth inning brought home the go-ahead run as Larkin beat Batavia 2-1 in the opener of a UEC River twin bill. Batavia won the second game 7-1. Drew Shore (2-for-3) led the Larkin offense in the opener and Tyler Kalusa drove in the Royals’ only run in Game 2. Shore took the loss for Larkin (9-21, 6-16) in the nightcap.

Burlington Central 9, Libertyville 4: Kevin Zasada had a solo home run and Zach Ranney was 3-for-4 with a double and a triple to lead the Rockets to a nonconference win. Tanner Scott (2B), Ray Hunnicutt (2B, 2 RBI) and winning pitcher Michael Scott (2-for-4, 2B, 2 RBI) led the offense for BC (22-8).

Hampshire 7, Woodstock North 5: Piotr Barnas (2-for-3, RBI) and Sean O’Shea (2-for-3, RBI) led Hampshire to an FVC Fox win. Kyke Carbone got the win and Jeremy Gogoel the save for the Whip-Purs (12-15-1, 6-8).

Huntley 9, Hononegah 1: Colin Lyman was 3-for-4 with 2 home runs, a double and 4 RBI as Huntley rolled to a nonconference win. Nick Corpolongo (2-for-3, RBI), Kameron Salllee (RBI) and Mark Skoniczeny (2B, RBI) also contributed for the Red Raiders (18-14). Justin Gundlach (4-4) struck out 7 and scattered 6 hits for the win.

College baseball

ECC wins 2: The Elgin Community College baseball team stands one win from a Region IV Sectional title after beating Carl Sandburg 10-1 and Kankakee 5-4 on Saturday. Winning pitcher Bob Thorson drove in the go-ahead run in the top of the ninth against Kankakee. Thorson was 3-for-5 with 2 RBI and ran his record to 8-0 on the mound. Dominick Tatone picked up the save. Justin Kalusa was 2-for-5 with an RBI, David Mutter went 2-for-3 with an RBI and Matt Stevens had a double for the Spartans. In the win over Carl Sandburg, Ryan Burke (5-1) threw a 3-hitter for ECC (32-17). Stevens was 3-for-4 with a 3-run homer, a double and 4 RBI, Kalusa went 2-for-4 and Ryan Richardson was 3-for-5. ECC will take on Kankakee at noon today at Kankakee for the sectional title.

Judson eliminated: Judson fell 8-5 to Tabor College late Friday night and was eliminated from the NAIA Opening Round tournament in Kansas. Matt McHenry was 3-for-5 with an RBI for the Eagles (47-14), while Billy Wright, Cameron Balough and Tony Rallo each drove in runs. George Heller took the loss.
