Spector, LZ get past Stevenson
It was a pitchers duel between Lake Zurich’s Wyatt Spector and Stevenson’s Jon Savarise who piled up 6 and 10 strikeouts, respectively, Tuesday.
But the Bears showed some offense too, particularly in the end to beat Stevenson 2-1 at home. The win improves Lake Zurich’s record to 17-9 and 6-3 in the North Suburban Lake Division.
James DeGeorge drilled a change-up over the left-field fence to give the Bears the initial lead. Stevenson (16-9, 5-4) came back to score in the top of the seventh. Then in the bottom of the inning, John Orlando led off for Lake Zurich by doubling down the right-field line. Orlando advanced to third on a passed ball.
Tanner Kiser then knocked in the game-winner with a deep line drive to left, scoring Orlando.
Mundelein 10, Zion-Benton 0 (5 inn.): Ryan Borucki tripled, and Will Farmer, Torr Randau and Bryan Wiener all doubled as Mundelein improved its record to 23-4 and 8-1 in the North Suburban Lake.
Jared Mandel pitched the shutout.
Grayslake Central 13, Woodstock North 0 (5 inn.): After seeing their 14-game winning streak come to an end in a 5-0 loss to Deerfield Monday, the Rams cruised to victory and improved their overall record to 21-6 and 14-1 in Fox Valley Conference play.
Grayslake Central pounded out 15 hits with sophomores Kyle Clark and Matt Loeffl having 2 hits apiece. Nick Hosford added a double and single. Jon Gurchak had a 2-run home run. Sean Boban and Jay Kleinofen each had a pair of singles.
Brian Karol picked up his fifth victory of the season, striking out seven.
Libertyville 5, Lake Forest 2: Nick Coutre went 3-for-3, and Anthony Mack (triple, 2 RBI) and Alec Semersky each had 2 hits for the Wildcats in the North Suburban Lake contest.
Dar Townsend threw 6 innings for the win. Libertyville (7-2 NSC Lake) got stolen bases from Coutre, Mack, Justin Guarnaccio and Semersky.
Lake Forest got a home run from Same Templeman.
Grant 3, Lakes 1: Jared Helmich went the distance on the mound for the Bulldogs, striking out nine and walking only one in the North Suburban Prairie game.
Grant (15-9, 5-4) got a home run and single from Jordan Villarreal and a 3-for-3 effort from Simeon Lucas. Brent Spohr had a double and an RBI.
Lakes (15-13, 4-4) got a triple and run scored from Joe Sisk.
Vernon Hills 7, Antioch 2: Tyler Feece improved to 9-1, finishing two outs shy of a complete game for the Cougars in the North Suburban Prairie contest.
Chris Marras had an RBI triple, and Ethan McGrew pounded a 2-run double for Vernon Hills.
Jerry LaSaint doubled for Antioch.
