Baseball/Fox Valley roundup

South Elgin (16-7, 13-6), Crystal Lake South (22-7) and Cary-Grove (17-9) each drew top regional seeds in Class 4A while Burlington Central (20-7) and Prairie Ridge (19-9) were named top seeds at Class 3A regionals when seedings for the upcoming state baseball tournaments were released by the Illinois High School Association Tuesday.

Within the Class 4A McHenry sectional, South Elgin earned the No. 1 seed at the Larkin regional, followed by Barrington, Elgin and Larkin.

Crystal Lake South heads the field at the Huntley regional, followed by Jacobs, Huntley, Dundee-Crown and No. 5 Rockford Jefferson.

Cary-Grove is No. 1 at the McHenry regional, ahead of Grant, McHenry and Round Lake. Rockford Boylan is the top seed at the Harlem regional.

In Class 3A, Burlington Central drew the top seed within the Hampshire regional, which feeds into the Sycamore sectional. Central is followed by Sycamore, Crystal Lake Central, Marengo and Hampshire.

Prairie Ridge tops the Marian Central regional, followed by Wauconda, Marian Central, Woodstock North and Woodstock.

Burlington Central 7, Genoa-Kingston 0: Senior Tanner Scott launched his 11th home run of the season and the 39th of his high school career, tying him for fifth place on the state’s all-time list with Bloomington’ Ryan Enata (2001-04). Blake Alexander went 2-for-4 with a double, and Michael Scott pitched a complete-game 2-hitter to keep Burlington Central (20-7, 8-0) in sole possession of first place in the Big Northern East.

Neuqua Valley 8, South Elgin 7: The first-place Wildcats completed the 3-game series sweep by scoring a run in the bottom of the sixth and holding off the Storm in the seventh. Andrew Weedman doubled for the Storm, but the Wildcats swatted 4 doubles and a home run by Jack Amaro. David Palmer took the loss for South Elgin (16-7, 13-6).

St. Charles North 6, Streamwood 1: Richie Gorski, Brandon Larkin-Guilfoyle and Jeff Weaver managed the only 3 hits for the Sabres (9-21, 5-16) in this Upstate Eight River defeat.

St. Charles East 9, Larkin 0: Nate Young and Brayden Royse managed the only 2 hits for the Royals against St. Charles East ace Kyle Manske in this Upstate Eight River clash. Kyle Newquist absorbed the loss for Larkin (8-18, 5-13).

Crystal Lake South 17, Dundee-Crown 7: Dom Winiecki, Max Meitzler and Nick Martin doubled and Jake Bigos tripled and drove in 3 runs to keep CL South half a game ahead of Prairie Ridge in the Fox Valley Conference’s Valley Division. Josh Fruhauf (1-1) pitched 3 innings to earn the win. Trent Muscat went 2-for-3 for Dundee-Crown (7-15-1, 4-10), which was outhit 15-10.

Prairie Ridge 2, Jacobs 1: Prairie Ridge scored 2 unearned runs in the top of the seventh against Jacobs closer Zac Camacho to upend the Golden Eagles, who had taken a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the sixth on Connor Conzelman’s bases-loaded walk. Evan Blunk and Greg Mixon each pitched 3 scoreless innings for Jacobs (15-11, 9-5).

Hampshire 4, Woodstock 1: Justin Thinger pitched a complete-game 3-hitter to help the Whip-Purs snap an 11-game losing streak against Fox Valley Conference teams. Jake Kuhn hit a solo home run for Hampshire (8-15-1, 2-11). “It was a great win,” coach John Sarna said. “We played as a team today.”

Marmion 9, St. Edward 4: Freshman Jake LaFrenz (4-3) took the loss in the Suburban Christian Conference game at Trout Park after allowing 5 earned runs on 3 hits with 2 walks. Luke Duffy doubled and scored and Patrick Puckett singled and drove in a run for St. Edward (16-16, 6-7).
