Fedro, Prospect win MSL showdown

Prospect sophomore Jordan Fedro made sure Fremd’s offense was done after it scored an early run in Friday’s baseball crossover between Mid-Suburban League division leaders.

And the host Knights’ offense made sure this one ended early as a 6-run fifth inning capped an 11-1 victory to give them sole possession of first place in the East.

Fedro threw a 3-hitter with 3 strikeouts and 2 walks. Fremd (16-9, 9-3) got its run on Jon Escobar’s first-inning sacrifice fly.

Dan Kavanaugh (2-for-4) ended the game with a 2-run double and Jack Landwehr and A.J. Compton had 2 hits and 2 RBI as Prospect (12-14, 9-3) won its sixth straight MSL game. Brad Gerdes and Nico Witanen had 2 hits apiece, Kevin Krohm had 2 RBI and Shane Joyce drove in a run.

Prospect starts its two-game series with Elk Grove at home Monday. Hersey (18-5, 8-4), which dropped a game back with a 5-3 loss to Hoffman Estates, hosts Rolling Meadows to start a two-game series Monday.

Fremd leads the West by 3 games and starts a two-game series Monday at Palatine.

Hoffman Estates 5, Hersey 3: Seventh-inning doubles by Riley Mugerditchian and Ethan Bloom keyed a tiebreaking 3-run rally by Hoffman Estates (11-14, 5-7) in the MSL crossover. Mugerditchian led off the inning and Bloom broke a 2-2 tie with his second double of the game.

Brian Cvitkovich went 6 innings for the victory and Kevin Grudzinski got the final out for the save. Tyler Perkowitz and Sean Reszotko had 2 hits apiece for Hersey (18-5, 8-4).

Elk Grove 6, Barrington 0: Jake Woods and Dan Guido combined to scatter 9 hits and Peter Kinsella homered as Elk Grove (13-13, 5-7) snapped an 8-game losing streak with the MSL crossover win.

Woods had 5 strikeouts and 1 walk in 4 innings and Guido had 3 strikeouts and 1 walk in 3 innings to get the save. Kinsella hit a 2-run homer, Jack Czeszewski doubled and had an RBI and Johnny Assimakopoulos had 2 hits for the Grenadiers.

Macray Poidomani went 3-for-4 and Frank Waliczek and Aaron Foley had 2 hits for Barrington (16-10, 6-6).

Palatine 12, Wheeling 3: Kurt Becker and Mike Czarnik had 3 hits apiece as Palatine (11-17, 6-6) scored all of its runs in the final five innings in the MSL crossover. Czarnik (2 doubles), Nick Roy (2-for-3) and Eric Scheuermann all had 2 RBI.

Jarrod Juskiewicz and Zach Serna also had 2 hits as the Pirates finished with 15. Winner Jake Walker allowed 1 earned run and 3 hits in 6 innings with 5 strikeouts.

Conant 2, Buffalo Grove 1: Dan Behof and Nick Blaha combined for MSL crossover victory for Conant (10-11, 6-6). Blaha came on in the sixth to keep the lead and struck out two hitters in the seventh.

Jimmy Pinakidis went 2-for-3 and Zach Anzelmo allowed 1 earned run and had 8 strikeouts in 7 innings for BG (10-16, 5-7).
