Conant maintains winning ways
Conant 10, Buffalo Grove 0 (6 inn.): Defending Mid-Suburban League champ Conant (23-2, 11-0) remained unbeaten in the West as Briana Cavin threw a 3-hitter (7 strikeouts) and went 2-for-4 at the plate with a double and RBI.
Other top hitters for the visiting Cougars were Rachel O’Malley (3-for-4, 2 runs, RBI), Miranda Cavin (2-for-4, 2 runs), Kim Jacobson (3-for-4, 3 runs, 3 RBI), Sarah Thompson (2-for-4, 1 run), Telly Hunter (2-for-4, double, 3 RBI) and Elisa Ambrose (1-for-2, 1 run).
Freshmen Caitlin Catino, Dea Barton and Julia Barton had the hits for BG (8-17, 4-7).
Hersey 4, Hoffman Estates 3: Host Hersey (12-12, 4-7) won for the third time in four games as junior Sarah Platt (6-4) threw the first 6 innings to notch the win. Platt (2-for-3) also hit a solo homer to center in the fourth.
Other top hitters for Hersey were Val Burke (2-for-3), Melissa Cecala (RBI single in second inning) and Angela Schmiederer (singled and made it home on an error).
Kaileen Hendle had a 2-run single in the seventh and teammate Alexis Filler doubled for the Hawks (3-15-1, 1-10).
Freshman Charlotte Allan (31-4) had 6 strikeouts for Hoffman.
Fremd 15, Prospect 0 (5 inn.): Fremd (22-5, 9-2) was led by Leigh Farina (2-for-4), Michelle Mazur (2-for-4, 2 doubles), Megan Hubbard (3-for-3, double) and Brittany Ciura (3-for-3, 2 doubles, 4 RBI).
Rachel Doering (12-2) pitched 3 innings, allowing 1 hit and striking out one. Teammate Morgan Checinski pitched the last two innings, allowing 1 hit.
Michelle Korf (1-2) took the loss for the Knights (6-18, 3-7). Jill Sadowski had both hits for Prospect and pitched 3 innings, allowing 4 hits and 2 runs in the Vikings’ fourth inning. Prospect stranded 8 base runners.
“We knew going into the game that Fremd was a well-disciplined, well-coached team and that we would have to play our best to stay with them,” said Prospect coach Jim Adair. “That didn’t happen this time around, but it was a good learning experience for our team. They are who we want to be some day.”
Palatine 14, Wheeling 0 (5 inn.): Palatine (13-13, 5-6) was led by Tori Walzak 1-4, 2 RBI), Lauren Logan (1-for-2 RBI), Megan Hedstrom (2-for-3, RBI), Kaileigh, Moertl (2-for-4, 3 RBI, triple) Jules Udoni (2-for-3, RBI, double) Jamie Haze (2-for-3, 2 RBI) and Kayla Bogan (2-for-3, 2 RBI)
Nette Howard doubled for the host Wildcats (4-16, 2-9)
Junior Megan Hedstrom (10-10) struck out five as the winning pitcher over sophomore Katie Quagliano (4-13)
Rolling Meadows 8, Schaumburg 5: After missing seven games due to a concussion, junior Sara Brunlieb (11-4) returned to the mound and fired a 4-hitter to snap the host Mustangs’ seven-game losing streak.
Sam Anderson (2-for-3, 2 stolen bases, RBI) led the Meadows (14-12, 5-6) while teammate Natalie Cannizzo had a double.
Sarah Caprio’s two-out 2-run single in the third inning broke a 5-5 tie.
Shannon Felde (2-for-3, 2 doubles) and Dana Gianelle (double) led the offense for Schaumburg (11-11, 4-6). Saxons pitcher Alyssa Lancaster struck out three.
Maine West 13, Highland Park 0 (6 inn.): Junior Ariel Valles (12-5) came in relief to earn the win for Maine West (16-8, 7-0) in the CSL North game on Tuesday.
Holly Wengerski (2-for-5, 3 RBI, 1 run, 2 stolen bases), Angela Cruz (1-for-2, 1 run, double, 2 RBI), Caroline Baird (2-for-3, 2 runs, double, RBI) and Gina Larucci (1-for-2, 1 run, double, 2 RB) led the Warriors’ offense.
St. Viator 11, Regina 2: St. Viator (10-14) belted 17 hits and sophomore Sam Hogan (5 strikeouts) cruised to her sixth victory.
Alex Flasch hit for the cycle and Gina Mastrodomenico hit her first home run of the season. Lauren Prazuch had 3 hits. Colleen Dunne and Krystal Harris each had 2 hits.
On Tuesday, the Lions defeated St. Joseph 10-0, led by Flasch (3-for-4, home run, double), Michelle Presslak (3-for-3), Tess Kaiser (1-for-2), Prazuch (4-for-4, 3 RBI) and Dunne (1-for-2). Hogan (6-12) got the win with 3-hitter and 5 strikeouts.
