Green Drinks to talk environmentally safe lawns

Submitted by Green Drinks

The public is invited to join the Green Drinks McHenry County group from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 2 at Duke’s Alehouse & Kitchen, 110 N. Main St. in Crystal Lake. This month’s presenters will talk about natural lawn care.

Each year, lawns in the United States are covered with over 67 million pounds of synthetic pesticides and 3 to 6 million tons of synthetic fertilizers. These products not only damage the environment by degrading the quality of our water resources, contributing to air pollution, and threatening wildlife populations but also present a serious public health threat.

Sarah Neville will discuss Safer Pest Control Project’s Natural Lawn Care program, which seeks to promote environmentally friendly alternatives to conventional lawn care practices, and provide tips on the introduction of sustainable lawn care practices in one’s home and community.

Tess Wendel will talk about the importance of using phosphorus-free fertilizer and the Sierra Club’s nutrient pollution campaign in Illinois.

Pick up a drink or order some food at the bar before coming upstairs for info and inspiration, business and pleasure. Come, talk about “greening” the future with others. You must be age 21 to purchase alcohol; nonalcoholic drinks also are available.

There will be an information table setup, and you are welcome to bring information about your green products and services each month to share.

Additional parking is available at the train station.
