SAS Architects & Planners to Design Northbrook Assisted Living/Dementia Care Community

SAS Architects & Planners (http://www.sasarch.com) -- a Northbrook-based, full-service firm specializing in senior living, healthcare and commercial use projects -- has been retained by Senior Lifestyle Corporation (http://www.seniorlifestyle.com), a national senior housing development and management firm, to design a combination assisted living/dementia care community in Northbrook.

Called North Shore Place, the two-phase project will be built on a seven-acre site at 1000 Sunset Ridge Rd., near the intersection of Sunset Ridge Rd. and Skokie Blvd.

Senior Lifestyle Corporation hopes to break ground on the first phase this November, and completed it by year-end 2013. It will consist of a five-story, 156-unit residence with 40 one- and two-bedroom apartments for those requiring memory support services. Planned amenities include casual and formal dining rooms, a theater, card room, spiritual center, library/computer center, bank, country store, spa, fitness center, therapy room, arts and crafts center, and three outdoor patios.

A second phase will be a single-story 32-unit assisted living memory care center, specially designed to meet the needs of residents with more advanced dementia.

“North Shore Place will be the latest in more than a dozen facilities we've designed over the last decade that contain dementia care components,” said SAS President Steven E. Sussholz, AIA. “Since the firm began in 1954, we've worked on more than 120 eldercare projects -- representing the entire continuum of care -- including nursing homes, sheltered care, assisted living, supportive living, congregate care, dementia care and independent living facilities.”
