Krzysko connects again as Barrington sweeps

Loren Krzysko is the new home run queen at Barrington High School.

With still a season and a half left, the Fillies junior third baseman belted her 23rd career home run on Saturday at Libertyville as Barrington swept a doubleheader from the Wildcats 12-10 and 12-3.

Krzysko’s one-out 2-run homer to center field in the third inning of Game 1 broke the record held by Ashley Berggren, who hit 22 as an all-area first baseman before becoming a Big Ten MVP while playing basketball for Illinois.

Krzysko ended up 2-for-3 with 2 RBI and has 9 home runs this season.

“What a great accomplishment for a great player,” said Barrington coach Perry Peterson, whose team improved to 17-3. “Loren is so deserving of such a prestigious accomplishment.”

Other top hitter for the Fillies in Game 1 were Raegan Fingerman (3-fo-r5, RBI), Ally McLaughlin (2-for-5, RBI), Jordan Wekony (2-for-5, Morgan Olszewski (2-for-3, 4 RBI) and Maggie O’Hara (2-for-3, double, RBI).

Senior Emma Woods (5-0) struck out three and walked none in the final 423 innings for the win.

Junior Cassidy Kraimer (9-2) struck out eight and walked none while tossing a 6-hitter in Game 2.

Kelsey Kazmier (3-for-4, triple, 7 RBI), McLaughlin (2-for-3, 3 runs), Wekony (2-for-4, double, 3 RBI) and O’Hara (2-for-3, RBI) led the offense.

Conant goes 2-1: The Cougars improved to 18-2 with two wins and a loss to Cary-Grove in 11 innings at the Woodstock Invite.

Cary-Grove’s Lindsay Efflandt (8 strikeouts) and Conant’s Briana Cavin (15 strikeouts) dueled for 11 innings before the Trojans put 2 across in the top of the 11th under the international tiebreaker rules.

Allie Bauch (2-for-4) and Miranda Cavin (3-for-5) led the Cougars’ offense.

In a 14-0 triumph over Woodstock, the Cougars were led by Rachel O’Malley (2-for-3, 3 RBI, 2 doubles, 1 run), Briana Cavin (2-for-5, 2 runs), Sarah Thompson (2-for-4, 2 RBI, 2 runs), Shannon O’Connor (2-for-3, 2 RBI, double, 1 run) and Megan Reff (1-for-2, double, 3 runs).

Briana Cavin (17-2) and O’Connor (1-0) each struck out five batters in the game.

Conant also blanked Crystal Lake South 11-0 as Briana Cavin struck out nine and walked 2 while tossing a no-hitter.

O’Malley (2-for-4, 2 runs, 2 RBI), Miranda Cavin (2-for-4, home run, double, 4 RBI, 2 runs) and Kim Jacobson (2-for-3, 3 RBI), Allie Bauch (3-for-4, 2 doubles, 3 runs, RBI) and Telly Hunter (home run) led the Cougars.

Rolling Meadows, Evanston split: Visiting Rolling Meadows (13-6) led 9-0 in the opener before Evanston tied the game at 9-9 in the bottom of the seventh.

But the Mustangs put across 6 in the top of the eighth for a 15-9 triumph.

Freshman Lauren Hattory (2-1) pitched 13 innings to get the win as she struck out the final batter of the seventh. Hattory was one of four pitchers coach Tony Wolanski used in the contest. Josie Suchekci did not allow a run in the bottom of the eighth. Sara Brunlieb (10-4) had a no-hitter going until the sixth inning when Evanston scored 5 runs.

Junior shortstop Sam Anderson (4-for-5, 7 RBI) belted 2 home runs (sixth and seventh of season) for Meadows including a grand slam to center field with one out in the fourth inning.

Other top hitters for the Mustangs were Suchecki (2-for-3, RBI), Natalie Cannizzo (2-for-4, RBI), Kelly Sarussi (2-for-4) and Megan O’Donnell (2-for-3, 2 RBI).

Emily Hattory (3-for-5, 5 RBI, double), Anderson (2-for-5, double, RBI), Jenny Watson (2-for-4, double RBI) and Sarussi (2-for-4) were top hitters for the Mustangs in Game 2 when they fell 11-8.

Lauren Hattory took the loss.

The game snapped the Mustangs’ longest winnings (six games) since Wolanski’s second season in 2005 when they won seven in a row.

Fremd, Jacobs split: Fremd (17-5) and senior pitcher Rachel Doering (8-2) won the opener 10-0 in five innings while the visiting Golden Eagles posted a 2-0 victory in 10 innings in Game 2.

Schaumburg, Glenbard East split: The host Saxons (9-9) dropped the opener 2-1 in nine innings but came back for a five-inning 13-3 win in Game 2.

Alyssa Lancaster (5-4) struck out seven in the opener while Courtney Plackner (2-for-5, double) and Sarah May (2-for-4) led the Saxons’ offense.

Hannah Kerr (2-2) threw a 4-hitter with 3 strikeouts and no walks for the win in Game 2. The junior also went 3-fo-r4 at the plate with an RBI.

Other top hitters for the Saxons were freshman Shannon Felde (3-for-4, 2 doubles, 4 RBI) and junior Carly Brossard (2-for-3, 2 RBI).

“Alyssa (Lancaster and Hannah (Kerr) each pitched great games,” said Saxons coach Ellen Stoddard.

Prospect falls twice: Host Lake Zurich swept the Knights 12-0 in five innings and 7-0.

Ally Schuldt was Prospect’s only baserunner in Game 1 when she singled to center in the second inning.

The Knights (5-15) had 2 hits in Game 2 from Allie Likes (double in the fourth) and Michele Molini (single in the sixth).

Friday’s game: Prospect ace Hanna Lythberg threw a 5-hitter with 8 strikeouts as the Knights topped visiting Buffalo Grove 9-3. Lythberg also went 3-for-3 with 4 runs and 2 RBI including a home run to left field.

Michele Molini (2-for-2, RBI, 4 runs) also had a home run in the third inning while Cassie Poulos (3-for-3, 2 RBI, 1 run) tripled an doubled.

Ally Schuldt had a 2-run double in the third inning and Jill Sadowski singled home 2 runs in the fourth.

Freshman Julia Camardo struck out eight for BG while classmate Caitlin Catino went 3-for-4 with a double and 2 runs.

Glenbrook North sweeps Wheeling: Glenbrook North recorded a pair of shutouts 12-0 (six innings) and 6-0 at Wheeling (3-12).

Leyden sweeps Maine South: Senior pitcher Morgan Maize defeated host Maine South 16-3 and freshman Sammi Caputo got the 10-5 win in Game 2 as visiting Leyden improved to 15-5.

Hersey goes 2-1: Hersey (9-10) took second place at the four-team Highland Park Invite, notching wins over the host Giants (12-3) and Grant (5-3) and falling 9-3 to Romeoville.

Pitcher Sarah Platt (3-3) earned the win over Highland Park while Michele Bolker got (5-7) the decision over Grant.
