Fremd wins roller-coaster ride

Fremd and Barrington had an up-and-down Mid-Suburban West baseball battle Wednesday in Palatine.

But Fremd (10-7, 3-2) had the last chance and ended up with a 4-3 victory as Keith Giagnorio capped a 2-run seventh with a two-out RBI single.

Matt Wisniewski started the seventh with a single and took second on Jon Escobar’s single. Matt Isola delivered a tying single up the middle and Giagnorio’s liner up the middle brought home pinch runner Grant Dunham.

Barrington (12-5, 3-2) took a 3-2 lead in the sixth on a 2-run single by Macray Poidomani. Fremd scored first on a first-inning wild pitch and broke a 1-1 tie in the fifth on Escobar’s RBI single.

Pinch runner Brian Kleczynski stole second and was balked to third. After a strikeout, Ryan Schumi walked and stole second and Erich Froemming hit a 1-2 pitch to center for a 2-run triple that broke up the no-hitter and shutout.

An error gave BG an insurance run and Jimmy Pinakidis made a spectacular catch with a runner at second to preserve the win for Berger.
