Maine West likes triple Duckmanns
Maine West’s baseball team is making it tough to duck the Duckmanns.
Jeff Duckmann went 5-for-5 and combined with winning pitcher Crosley Duckmann and James Duckmann for 11 of the Warriors’ 18 hits in a 16-4 nonconference victory in five innings at Wheeling on Saturday.
James Duckmann also homered and Scott Costello homered and had 2 doubles. Jeff and Crosley Duckmann doubled as Maine West broke a 4-4 tie with a 5-run fourth and ended it with a 7-run fifth.
Robert McCabe and Tommy Hennessy also had 2 hits apiece for the Warriors. Kalvin Thong went 3-for-3 and Brendan Spillane went 2-for-3 for Wheeling (1-15).
Maine West also beat St. Viator 4-0 on Friday as Justin Mustari and James Duckmann combined on a 7-hitter.
Hersey 9, Simeon 8 (8 inn.): Hersey (12-1) scored 7 runs in the last three innings to rally from a 7-2 deficit in the nonconference home win when Nick Heeren came home on a two-out passed ball in the bottom of the eighth. Josh Koutnik singled with two out and Heeren came in as a courtesy runner.
Sean Reszotko (2-for-4) had a leadoff single led to the tying run in the bottom of the seventh on a wild pitch. David Milligan (2-for-5) tied the game at 7-7 with an RBI single to cap a 5-run sixth and Nick Nolan had a homer and a double.
Aaron DeGeorge was the winner in 2 innings of relief as the Huskies won their sixth in a row.
Barrington 11, Naperville Central 3: Barrington (12-3) wasted no time getting started toward its seventh straight win with a 7-run first at Naperville Central in support of winner Wyatt Trautwein (2-0), who had 3 strikeouts and 4 walks in 6 innings. Max Redpath went 2-for-4 with 3 RBI and Frank Waliczek and Chris Coco had 2 hits apiece.
Schaumburg 10, Streamwood 5: Sophomore Jack Holden (1-1) allowed 2 earned runs and had 4 stirkeouts in 5 innings and went 2-for-3 with 2 RBI for Schaumburg (10-7) in the nonconference home win. Brayden Teele (3-for-4, 3 RBI) hit a 2-run homer in the sixth and Colin Bethran went 3-for-4 with 2 RBI.
Mundelein 4, Rolling Meadows 1: The only hits for Meadows (11-4) as its nine-game winning streak ended came in succession as Matt Hendricks tripled and scored on Mike Dolan’s single in the fourth. Austin Reed had 5 strikeouts in 6 innings for Meadows.
St. Charles North 3, Elk Grove 2: Dan Guido took a 4-hit shutout into the bottom of the sixth for Elk Grove (10-5) but St. Charles North put together a 3-run rally with one out in the nonconference game. Jack Czeszewski and Peter Kinsella had 2 hits and Cody Gustafson had an RBI single in the Grenadiers’ 2-run fourth.
Lake Park 8, Fremd 4 (8 inn.): A string of two-out hits in the top of the eighth led Lake Park to the nonconference win. Keith Browning went 3-for-5 and Jack Andersen went 2-for-3 for Fremd (8-7).
Glenbrook South 14, Buffalo Grove 6: Glenbrook South pounded out 19 hits and Buffalo Grove (6-11) committed 6 errors in the nonconference loss. Erich Froemming went 2-for-4 with a triple and 2 RBI, Mike DiViesti went 2-for-3 with a double and 2 RBI and Richie Zirngibl and Jimmy Barton had 2 hits apiece for the Bison.
Nazareth 5, St. Viator 3: Roy Pettingill homered and drove in 2 runs and Anthony Ferrante had 2 hits for St. Viator (10-7) in the East Suburban Catholic Conference loss at Nazareth.
