Elgin CC’s Angelo notches win No. 499

499 down, one to go.

Well, Elgin Community College baseball coach Bill Angelo will probably win many more than that before he hangs up the spikes, but his team’s 8-3 nonconference win agt Sauk Valley Thursday put Angelo in position to win his 500th game at ECC on the Spartans’ home field.

Justin Kalusa was 2-for-4 with 2 doubles and 2 RBI Thursday as the Spartans scored 5 runs in the fourth inning. Matt Kaiser had a double and an RBI for ECC (13-9) and Liam Jegg picked up the win on the mound, going 7 innings with 5 strikeouts, 1 walk and allowing just 1 hit.

“I liked the way we battled and out some runs on the board by pressuring their defense,” said Angelo. “We were aggressive on the bases.”

ECC hosts perennial JUCO power Kankakee at 3 p.m. today and then hosts an ISCC doubleheader against Morton beginning at noon Saturday.
