St. Viator holds off Schaumburg
St. Viator and Schaumburg always seem to make their nonconference baseball games exciting.
It was no different Tuesday as St. Viator gave up 2 runs in the top of the seventh inning but held on for an 8-7 victory in Arlington Heights. Cosimo Cannella had 3 hits, a double and 2 RBI, Joe Rossi had 2 hits, a double and an RBI and Joe Ferrante had a double and 2 RBI for the Lions (10-5), who broke a 5-5 tie with a 2-run fifth.
Chris Carlson had 3 hits, 2 doubles and 3 RBI and Thomas Byrne tripled for the Saxons (8-6).
Hersey 7, Loyola 2: Pat Nix didn’t allow a run in the final four innings of a complete game for Hersey (9-1) in the nonconference win. Nix had 8 strikeouts and 2 walks and threw 69 of 105 pitches for strikes.
Sean Reszotko went 2-for-3 with 3 RBI and Brad Moore went 2-for-3 with an RBI for Hersey.
Rolling Meadows 11, Notre Dame 6: Eric Lowe, Mike Olson and Mike Dolan had 3 RBI apiece as Rolling Meadows (9-3) won its seventh straight in the nonconference game at Oakton Community College in Des Plaines. Dan Hendricks went 2-for-3 with a double and 2 RBI.
Benet 10, Conant 4: Freshman Anthony Forte had 2 doubles and Kyle Gizynski doubled for Conant (4-6) in the nonconference loss.
Cary-Grove 10, Wheeling 1: Joseph Zimmerman doubled for Wheeling (1-12) in the nonconference loss.
Oak Park-River Forest 6, Leyden 0: Angel Sanchez allowed only 1 run through five innings for Leyden but Oak Park broke open the West Suburban Conference crossover with a 4-run sixth. Both teams had 9 hits as Ivan Nevarez and Mike Szopinski doubled for the Eagles.
North Shore 12, Christian Liberty 2: Daniel Cabrera doubled for Christian Liberty in the loss.
