Fremd’s Andersen unbeatable, unhittable
Fremd senior Jack Andersen has been unbeatable so far this season.
On Wednesday, the right-hander was unhittable in a nonconference baseball game at Glenbard North.
Andersen needed only 73 pitches to fire a no-hitter with 12 strikeouts as he improved to 4-0 and Fremd (7-2) won its seventh straight game 7-0 in Carol Stream.
Andersen threw 47 strikes as the only baserunners came on a one-out walk in the second inning anda two-out error in the seventh. He struck out seven of the final nine hitters.
Andersen also drove in the only run he needed with a first-inning single. Zach Kolakowski went 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI, Keith Giagnorio was 2-for-4 with an RBI and Connor Bieda went 2-for-3 with 2 RBI.
Prospect 2, Glenbard East 0: This time Prospect senior Jack Landwehr got a hard-earned 1-hit victory instead of a tough-luck 1-hit defeat. Landwehr (2-1) , who lost 1-0 to Bartlett in his last start, had 9 strikeouts in the nonconference win in Lombard.
And Landwehr finally received some support in the top of the seventh inning on Dan Kavanaugh’s 2-run double, which was the only hit for the Knights (3-6).
Rolling Meadows 9, Niles North 0: Senior Matt Hendricks allowed only 2 infield hits and had 3 hits at the plate as Meadows (5-3) rolled to the nonconference home win. Hendricks threw 58 of his 86 pitches for strikes to finish with 10 strikeouts and 1 walk as he gave up an infield single in the third and a bunt single in the fifth.
Hendricks also drove in 2 runs and Dan Hendrickson went 2-for-4 with 2 doubles and 3 RBI. Eric Lowe, Jim Grier and Matt Dennis went 2-for-4 and Mike Dolan had 2 sacrifice flies.
Buffalo Grove 3, Deerfield 2 (8 inn.): BG (5-7) won in dramatic fashion for the second straight time as Jake Fanella had a game-ending bases-loaded single to center in the bottom of the eighth. Billy Chandler walked to start the inning, Erich Froemming sacrificed, Ryan Schumi (2-for-4) singled and stole second and Jimmy Pinakidis was intentionally walked.
Fanella drilled a 2-1 pitch that one-hopped the center-field fence. He also had a sixth-inning sacrifice fly, Mike DiViesti homered in the third and Zach Anzelmo got the victory with two scoreless relief innings.
Barrington 10, Notre Dame 1: Frank Waliczek threw a 5-hitter with 10 strikeouts and Scott Nelson went 3-for-3 with a double as Barrington (7-3) matched its win total of last season.
Lake Park 7, Conant 5: Nick Blaha had 2 RBI for Conant in the nonconference loss.
Libertyville 7, Palatine 3: Mike Czarnik went 2-for-2 with an RBI for Palatine (3-9) in the nonconference loss. Eric Scheuermann allowed no earned runs and 2 hits with 6 strikeouts and 1 walk in 4 innings.
