Glen Ellyn voters say ‘yes’ to field lights

Glen Ellyn voters strongly support allowing Glenbard West High School to install and operate four 70-foot and two 60-foot light poles at Memorial Field.

With all 38 precincts reporting, roughly 54 percent of voters said they support the lights, while 46 percent opposed them.

The advisory question was put on the ballot by Our Field, Our Town, which wanted residents’ opinion on the lights that some said could change the character of the neighborhood and create safety problems.

But the village board already approved plans for the lights earlier this year and the advisory vote results could only inform the school board when the issue comes before it next month.
