Bartlett sweeps: The Hawks opened the season with nonconference wins of 5-1 and 8-1 over Addison Trail. Tori Burke struck out 12 and threw a 3-hitter in Game 1. Kaylyn Zierke had 2 doubles while Alex Morales and Sydney Johnson added one each. Burke also hit a 2-run home run and Rachel Odolski was 2-for-3. In Game 2, Amanda Montbriand scattered 7 hits and struck out 8 with no walks for the win. Holly Pagan had a home run for Bartlett, Odolski was 2-for-4 with 2 stolen bases and Cara Carrion had 2 stolen bases.
Huntley falls twice: Batavia pounded out 25 hits and defeated Huntley 14-5 and 10-2. Randi Peterson won 6-for-7 on the day for the Red Raiders with 2 doubles and 2 RBI. Haley Spannraft want 2-for-4 with an RBI in Game 1 and Brittany Koss was 2-for-4. Ashley Laxner had a double and an RBI in Game 2 and Angela Tribuzio added a double for Huntley. Laxner and Spannraft suffered the pitching losses.
Cary-Grove 6, Carmel 3: The Trojans moved to 3-0 on the season as Taylor Dunne hit a 2-run home run and Lisa Semro had a double and an RBI. Sara Markelonis, Lindsay Efflandt and Sarah Leudo also drove in runs for the Trojans. Efflandt allowed 7 hits and had 6 strikeouts in picking up her third win of the season.
College softball
Judson splits: Judson beat Grand View 11-5 and lost to Hannibal-LaGrange 6-0 to complete play in the Evangel Tournament in Springfield, Mo. Sarah Boyer won her fifth game of the year for the Eagles (9-8) and Sam Gladen suffered the loss in the second game.
