Go on a ‘Family Scavenger Hunt’ in Glacial Park
Submitted by McHenry County Conservation District
McHenry County Conservation District invites families to sharpen their sleuthing skills on a “Family Scavenger Hunt” from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 1 at Lost Valley Visitor Center in Glacial Park, Route 31 and Harts Road, Ringwood.
Stop by anytime to receive your instructions and park map. Then explore the prairies, woodlands, and wetlands of Glacial Park, searching for the items on your scavenger hunt sheet. Bring your completed sheet back to claim your prize.
This event is part of the “Leave No Child Inside,” Chicago Wilderness initiative and will go on rain or shine unless there is a weather advisory in place. Dress for the weather and outdoor fun. No registration is required.
Unstructured outdoor play and exploration have been shown to contribute both to children’s physical development and to their psychological well-being.
Despite all the benefits, not all adults feel comfortable venturing into the world of nature play and exploration.
This event is designed to increase the confidence of those who haven’t tried being a nature guide or co-discoverer yet and to support those already out there exploring alongside their children.
Visit the district’s website at www.MCCDistrict.org to view the programs in greater detail or sign up to receive the quarterly newsletter “Landscapes.”
