ECC brunch to help students

Submitted by ECC

The Elgin Community College Foundation will assist students who need help in achieving their academic dreams during its 15th annual Founders’ Day Brunch on Sunday, Jan. 27, at ECC. The event will be held at 11 a.m. in Building E, the University and Business Center, 1700 Spartan Drive, Elgin.

The brunch’s theme of “Some Dreams Just Need a Little Help,” focuses on students attending ECC for the first time and those lacking the financial resources to continue their education.

“I’m always so touched and inspired by the students we hear from during the brunch,” says event Chairwoman Phyllis Folarin. “The obstacles that many students face and the persistence they exhibit in finding ways to continue their educational commitments in spite of unfavorable odds are quite remarkable.”

Since its inception in 1984, the ECC Foundation, a 501(c)(3) charity, provides financial assistance to support students and innovative ECC programs through the generosity of donors which support the college’s mission: “To Improve Lives Through Learning.”

Proceeds from the event will benefit the ECC Foundation Resources for Excellence Annual Fund, which provides immediate support for the areas of greatest need as students strive to achieve their educational goals.

The brunch also will honor community leaders who make an impact to the college. Awards will be given in the following categories: ECC Distinguished Alumnus/Alumna, Friend of Education; Exceptional Friend of the ECC Foundation; and Lasting Impact.

Tickets are available for $75 per person and $600 per table of eight. Guests also can purchase a ticket for a student scholarship recipient who would otherwise be unable to attend. Folarin says the planning committee felt it was important for students to attend so everyone could celebrate their achievement.

Seating is limited and tickets must be purchased in advance. To make a reservation or for more information about giving and sponsorship opportunities, contact the ECC Foundation office at (847) 214-7377, email foundation@elgin.edu, or visit elgin.edu/eccfoundation.
