Church, community come together to provide coats for kids in Dist. 300
Submitted by Light of Christ
A social worker from Lakewood Elementary School in Community Unit District 300 contacted the Rev. Sharon Rogers of Light of Christ Lutheran Church in Algonquin saying, “We have lots of kids who really could use a coat.”
Thrivent Financial was contacted and offered a $1,000 grant to purchase the coats followed by Walmart’s offer of a $100 toward the purchase.
When the word got out about the needs, there were more funds given to make the purchases.
Three people from Light of Christ joined Rogers and went shopping.
After the shopping, 56 coats, hats and gloves were supplied to help keep the children warm.
